Muste Memorial Institute Counter-Recruitment Fund The
Muste Institute has created a special fund supporting grassroots efforts to inform
young people about the realities of military service, help them find other options
for educational funding and employment, and provide alternative points of view
to those presented by military recruiters. An
application form is available here (application
form) and should be completed and e-mailed to info@ajmuste.org
Requests will be evaluated by a committee of people participating in Counter-Recruitment
work across the country. Grants will be made four times a year, following the
cycles of the Muste Institute's other grants.
Guidelines
for applying: -
The maximum grant amount is $1,500.
-
Organizations of any size may apply for funding to support specific projects,
but priority will be given to groups with smaller budgets and projects with less
access to other funding sources.
-
Projects should directly address the efforts of the U.S. military to recruit high-school
age and other youth into the armed forces. In particular, we seek to support projects
that are aimed at heavily recruited and under-served geographic and demographic
segments of the population.
- The
next application deadline will be October 11, 2010. The review and decision process takes about 8-10 weeks.
-
If an organization is funded, they must wait one year before re-applying (the
Muste Institute's general fund has a two-year waiting period). Receiving a grant
from the C-R Fund does not preclude an organization from applying to the general
fund for a project that has a different focus.
-
If an organization is turned down for a grant, it may re-apply at any time.
- Groups
don't need to be incorporated or to have non-profit tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status
or a fiscal sponsor to receive a grant from the CR Fund. However, we can't issue
checks to individuals, so the group receiving the grant must have its own bank
account. (Unincorporated associations can usually open a bank account after getting
an EIN number from the IRS using Form SS-4.)
- Groups receiving a grant must provide a complete project report, including
financial accounting, demonstrating that funds received from the Institute
were used in accordance with the grant agreement. This financial accounting
is due as soon as the money is spent or within six months, whichever comes
first (until funds are spent, you must submit an updated accounting every six
months). NOTE: All outstanding grant reporting must be received at least two
weeks prior to any new proposal submissions to the CR fund.
